What hoop are you looking for?
If you're an adult just starting out you want a Beginner Hoop.
We make our beginner hoops using 20mm and 25mm MDPE tubing. It's heavy enough to keep the momentum going without being so heavy that it bruises.
All our Beginner hoops are taped (because it looks gorgeous) but also because having gaffer or duck tape on a hoop provides extra grip that stops it slipping on your body.
20mm is great if you can already waist hoop, know you want to learn tricks or are a very slight build.
25mm is great if you struggle to waist hoop, know you just want to do hoop fitness or are a heavier build.
Hoops for your little peoples.
We recommend light but sturdy polypro for kids.
Our kids polypro come taped in bright gaffer and duck tape.
Sizing is not an exact science! If your child is inbetween sizes on our chart add an inch to the smaller size eg. 29 instead of 28 but don’t fret too much.
For bigger kids/kids that take longer to learn movement activities check our beginner hoops chart as a bigger, heavier hoop may suit them better.
NB: While our hoops are sturdier than supermarket toy hoops both the tape and plastic can be damaged on concrete or if used for activities other than hula hooping. Our Hoops contain small metal parts and require supervision during use.
If you are ready to add some tricks or dance to your hula hooping you may find your beginner hoop feels a bit heavy or big.
Polypro Hoops are made from a sturdy but lighter plastic than our MDPE hoops. They come in 3 different tubing sizes (here's our tubing blog).
We recommend getting a larger polypro for your first lighter hoop. Our "First polypro hoop" size chart will help you decide which tubing size and hoop diameter is best for you.
If you're hooping outside/drop your hoop a lot (dropping is learning) coloured polypro maintains it's colour even when used on a rough surface or scuffed.
If you hoop mainly indoors or just can't resist sparkles and glitter then a shiny taped polypro hoop is a great choice.
You've either totally disappeared down the hooping rabbit hole now and are ready to learn the off body crazy flippy tricks you've seen on social media or you want to level up your practice by adding a second hoop. In either case a smaller lighter hoop is your best option.
Check our tricks Polypro size chart: 16mm is great for coin flips and throws. It fits in your hand and is light on your wrists.
17.5mm goldilocks is also great for starting twins the added weight gives you a little more momentum .
19mm is a great choice if you love rolls and balances the slightly wider tubing gives more surface area for balancing!
If you're getting into multi hooping there's a couple of things to take into account. You want hoops big enough to comfortably maintain them on body but light enough to maintain more than one hoop over time.
We recommend polypro in either 19mm or 17.5mm goldilocks tubing. 19mm is a slightly wider tubing slightly easier to split.
17.5mm is thinner but has a thicker wall making it slightly heavier so easier to maintain the waist hoop.
Adding tape for grip is super helpful either by choosing taped hoops or choosing the add a strip of gaffer tape option for your coloured polypros.
Hopefully you've sorted the best type of hoop for you now! Below are links to other info you might need to dial in the right hoop size, get started hula hooping or find a hoop class. You can always check our FAQ's as well
Happy Hooping!
