Jennie Brennen

WORKSHOP:

Throw Your Hoop(s) Up In The Air!

In this workshop we will exploring the wonderfully dynamic world of hoop tosses! We will be learning four basic methods of tossing the hoop, getting the technique down so that we can perform them consistently and reliably, then applying it to more complex, creative and show stopping one hoop and twin hoop moves, including foot tosses and tossing out of two hoops one hand!

Pre Requisites/ What To Bring:

There are no pre-requisites to attend, as we’ll be starting from the beginning and then building on simple moves. As long as you’re confident spinning one hoop both forwards and backwards on one hand, you’re in for a good time! However, if you’re looking for complexity and innovation, or you really love twins, I’ve got you, too! Please bring at least one lightweight hoop, or two the same size if you want to learn the twin variations.

BIO:

Jennie Brennen is a captivating and unique hula hoop dancer and performance artist, constantly striving for a magical amalgam of technical precision and emotionally stirring artistry. Her background in physical theatre shines through in her mesmerising style, as does her keen interest in contemporary dance and circus. Jennie has been hooping since 2011, and teaching since 2015.

Jo Mondy

WORKSHOP:

Be the flow with Jo mondy

You know those hooping moments when you’re so totally absorbed in a trick or dancing to a song that you forget about everything else? That’s flow! But it’s not always easy to access a flow state in your hoop practice. In fact, sometimes it’s really hard and the more you try, the more you end up feeling frustrated. In this workshop, we will look at breaking down the barriers that stop you from feeling your flow – from practices that help break you out of ruts, to practical tips about moving from one trick to another and much more. Bring your favourite hoop and get ready to “be the flow”.

Biography

Jo Mondy started hooping in Australia in 2007 and her love of the hoop encouraged her to pack in her day job, get her hoop teacher training certification and start her company LiveLoveHoop.

She moved to the UK in 2010 and has since taught thousands of students how to hula hoop and built a strong and vibrant local hoop community in Brighton, England (which won Hoop Community of the year in 2013). She also runs a successful hoop teacher training program inspiring hoopers from the UK and Europe to set up their own hoop businesses.

She is at the forefront of the UK and international hoop scene, teaching at Hoop Camp Retreat California, UK Hoop Gathering, SWHOOP, German Hoop Convention, Swiss Hoop Convention, Spanish Hoop Holiday, Manchester Hoop Congress and other specialised workshops around the country.  Jo is also an established performer, who has entertained crowds in the UK, Australia, US and Europe at festivals, clubs, weddings, corporate events and private parties.

WORKSHOP:

Brain scrambling Wall Plane Tech with Twin Hoops

Learn mind-bending hoop tech that will frazzle your brain. We will begin by going through the theory behind wall plane twins and hybrids. Starting with the combination of a linear isolation and one-handed coin flip fold, we will build onto this move to create lots of different patterns and combinations. We will add twists, folds, turns, flips, iso-whips, linear isolations, swings, slides, use different hand grips, to explore all the different possibilities and add variety to your twins. We will learn how to move dynamically whilst doing wall plane twins, and how to connect the moves together and incorporate them into your existing twins flow. You do not need to have previous experience of twins to do this workshop, but it would help if you have some experience of moving two hoops at the same time. Everything will be explained from the basics up, but it would be helpful if you already know how to do a basic isolation and horizontal linear isolation. If you are already an experienced doubles hooper, this workshop will add to your skill set, and inspire you to build your own combinations. By the time you have finished the workshop your brain will be slightly scrambled! Please bring 2 x medium to small lightweight hoop
